Hawaii is also under scanner after “The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center” has placed it under its Tsunami advisory list. The North American Coastal parts of California and Alaska coastal island area from Kodiak to Attu is also under threats according to the Warning Center.

The center already has stated that a Tsunami is already on its way that can destroy a lot of lives along the sea coast and can also cause major destruction all around the area. It is being predicted that the Tsunami can collide with Hawai’s EWA (EH-VAH) beach around 11:19 A.M. in the morning.

The center is looking forward to employ important measure to safeguard Lives and their properties as they have instructed people out there to move from that region and go to a safer zone for their and their family’s protection.

Chile’s Earthquake is the second of the weekend with Japan’s Okinawa region being hit by 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake also in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Pirates die after VLCC release

TWO PIRATES have been killed in a gunfight with a rival group after releasing the hijacked Greek VLCC Maran Centaurus, Fairplay was told today.

Andrew Mwangura of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme told Fairplay that pirates released the ship after a record-breaking ransom of more than $7M was dropped onto the tanker yesterday by helicopter.

While returning to shore, the pirates were attacked by a rival group and two of them were killed, he said. The 300,294dwt tanker was taken on 29 November in the Somali Basin with 28 crew members aboard, EU NAVFOR reported. It was released this morning outside Haradere off Somalia and is now heading towards Durban.

Operator and manager Maran Tankers Management said all crew members are safe and well. The company would not confirm whether a ransom had been paid, “as they do not wish to provide any information which might in any way encourage further criminal acts of this kind”.

Meanwhile, the Turkish navy has helped Indian tanker Jag Layak evade an attack by pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

A helicopter from Turkish frigate TCG Gokova intercepted a pirate skiff that had opened fire on the 147,834dwt tanker on Saturday morning, EU NAVFOR said. No-one was hurt in the crew, and suspected pirates were arrested.

And the International Chamber of Shipping today released a statement calling on governments to do more to fight piracy.

“It is extraordinary that governments today seem less able to protect shipping than they were almost 200 years ago,” ICS Chairman Spyros Polemis remarked.

Eating right isn’t just about weight loss—the nutrients you take in can have a serious effect on how you think, feel, and look! Our bodies and our feelings are nothing more than reflections of the various chemicals flowing through our system on a daily basis. Make sure those chemicals are the healthy kind you get from the right mix of fruits and vegetables, proteins and fats, and you’ll feel healthier, more energetic, and happier than you have in years. In Eat This, Not That! 2010, we compiled a list of eight foods that can help keep you young. You’re only as young as you feel—so add these eight nutritious powerhouses to your daily diet, and start feeling (and acting and looking) years younger! EGGS Benefit: Weight loss Substitute: Egg Beaters egg substitute When it comes to breakfast, you can’t beat eggs. (That was too easy, wasn’t it?) Seriously, at a cost of only 72 calories, each large egg holds 6.3 grams of high-quality protein and a powerhouse load of vital nutrients. A study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that people who replace carbs with eggs for breakfast lose weight 65 percent quicker. Researchers in Michigan were able to determine that regular egg eaters enjoyed more vitamins and minerals in their diets than those who ate few or no eggs. By examining surveys from more than 25,000 people, the researchers found that egg eaters are about half as likely to be deficient in vitamin B12, 24 percent less likely to be deficient in vitamin A, and 36 percent less likely to be deficient in vitamin E. And here’s something more shocking: Those who ate at least four eggs a week had significantly lower cholesterol levels than those who ate fewer than one. Turns out, the dietary cholesterol in the yolk has little impact on your serum cholesterol. Bonus tip: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Choose wisely—avoid the foods on our list of 20 Worst Breakfasts in America. GREEN TEA Benefit: Longer lifespan Substitutes: Yerba mate, white tea, oolong tea, rooibos (red) tea Literally hundreds of studies have been carried out documenting the health benefits of catechins, the group of antioxidants concentrated in the leaves of tea plants. Among the most startling studies was one published by the American Medical Association in 2006. The study followed more than 40,000 Japanese adults for a decade, and at the 7-year follow-up, those who had been drinking five or more cups of tea per day were 26 percent less likely to die of any cause compared with those who averaged less than a cup. Looking for more-immediate results? Another Japanese study broke participants into two groups, only one of which was put on a catechin-rich green-tea diet. At the end of 12 weeks, the green-tea group had achieved significantly smaller body weights and waistlines than those in the control group. Why? Because researchers believe that catechins are effective at boosting metabolism. Bonus tip: The average American consumes 400 liquid calories a day. Minimize that impact—avoid the 20 Worst Drinks in America. GARLIC Benefit: Cardiovascular strengthening Substitutes: Onions, chives, leeks Allicin, an antibacterial and antifungal compound, is the steam engine pushing forward garlic’s myriad health benefits. The chemical is produced by the garlic plant as a defense against pests, but inside your body, it fights cancer, strengthens your cardiovascular system, decreases fat storage, and fights acne inflammation. To activate the most allicin possible, you have to crush the garlic as finely as you can: Peel the cloves, and then use the side of a heavy chef’s knife to crush the garlic before carefully mincing it. Be sure not to overcook it, as too much heat will render the compound completely useless (and your food totally bitter). Bonus tip: Some foods keep you looking young. Others can quite literally cure what ails you. Check out these super 15 Foods That Cure. GRAPEFRUIT Benefit: Weight loss Substitutes: Oranges, watermelon, tomatoes Just call it the better-body fruit. In a study of 100 obese people at the Scripps Clinic in California, those who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost an average of 3.6 pounds over the course of 12 weeks, and some lost as many as 10 pounds. The study’s control group, in contrast, lost a paltry 1/2 pound. But here’s something even better: Those who ate the grapefruit also exhibited a decrease in insulin levels, indicating that their bodies had improved their ability to metabolize sugar. If you can’t stomach a grapefruit-a-day regime, try to find as many ways possible to sneak grapefruit into your diet. Even a moderate increase in grapefruit intake should yield results, not to mention earn you a massive dose of lycopene—the cancer-preventing antioxidant found most commonly in tomatoes. Bonus tip: Eat well and you’ll feel younger and more vibrant. Add exercise to the mix and you’ll practically erase markers of age. GREEK YOGURT Benefit: Feeling fuller for longer Substitutes: Kefir and yogurt with “live and active cultures” printed on the product label If it’s dessert you want, go with regular yogurt; but if it’s protein, go Greek. What sets the two apart? Greek yogurt is separated from the watery whey that sits on top of regular yogurt, and the process removes excessive sugars, such as lactose, and increases the concentration of protein by as much as three times. That means it fills your belly more like a meal than a snack. Plus a single cup has about a quarter of your day’s calcium, and studies show that dieters on calcium-rich diets have an easier time losing body fat. In one study, participants on a high-calcium dairy diet lost 70 percent more body weight than those on a calorie-restricted diet alone. If only a similar claim could be made of everything you eat. Bonus tip: Fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt is a classic example of a food that doesn’t deserve its healthy reputation—see what else makes our list of the 30 “Healthy” Foods that Aren’t. AVOCADO Benefit: Reduced risk of heart disease Substitutes: Olive, canola, and peanut oils; peanut butter; tahini Here’s what often gets lost in America’s fat phobia: Some fats are actually good for you. More than half the calories in each creamy green fruit comes from one of the world’s healthiest fats, a kind called monounsaturates. These fats differ from saturated fats in that they have one double-bonded carbon atom, but that small difference at the molecular level amounts to a dramatic improvement in your health. Numerous studies have shown that monounsaturated fats both improve you cholesterol profile and decrease the amount of triglycerides (more fats) floating around in your blood. This can lower your risk of stroke and heart disease. Worried about weight gain? Don’t be. There’s no causal link between monounsaturated fats and body fat. BELL PEPPERS Benefit: Improved immune function Substitutes: Carrots, sweet potatoes, watermelon All peppers are loaded with antioxidants, but none so much as the brightly colored reds, yellows, and oranges. These colors result from carotenoids concentrated in the flesh of the peppers, and it’s these same carotenoids that give tomatoes, carrots, and grapefruits their healthy hues. The range of benefits provided by these colorful pigments include improved immune function, better communication between cells, protection against sun damage, and a diminished risk of several types of cancer. And if you can take the heat, try cooking with chili peppers. The bell pepper cousins are still loaded with carotenoids and vitamin C, but have the added benefit of capsaicins, temperature-raising phytochemicals that have been shown to fight headache and arthritis pain as well as boost metabolism. ALMONDS Benefit: Improved memory Substitutes: Walnuts, pecans, peanuts, sesame seeds, flaxseeds An ounce of almonds—or about 23 nuts—a day provides nearly 9 grams of heart-healthy oleic acid; that’s more than the amounts found in peanuts, walnuts, or cashews. This monounsaturated fat is known to be responsible for a flurry of health benefits, the most recently discovered of which is improved memory. Rats in California were better able to navigate a maze the second time around if they’d been fed oleic acid, and there’s no reason to assume that the same treatment won’t help you navigate your day-to-day life. If nothing else, snacking on the brittle nuts will take your mind off your hunger. Nearly a quarter of an almond’s calories come from belly-filling fiber and protein. That’s why, when researchers at Purdue fed study participants nuts or rice cakes, those who ate the nuts felt full for an hour and a half longer than the rice cake group did. Bonus Tip: Before you go out to eat, grab a handful of almonds; it could help keep your hunger at bay

By JAN M. OLSEN, Associated Press Writer Jan M. Olsen, Associated Press Writer – Sun Nov 1, 9:23 am ET KORSOER, Denmark – The world’s largest cruise ship cleared a crucial obstacle Sunday, lowering its smokestacks to squeeze under a bridge in Denmark. The Oasis of the Seas — which rises about 20 stories high — passed below the Great Belt Fixed Link with a slim margin as it left the Baltic Sea on its maiden voyage to Florida. Bridge operators said that even after lowering its telescopic smokestacks the giant ship had less than a 2-foot (half-meter) gap. Hundreds of people gathered on beaches at both ends of the bridge, waiting for hours to watch the brightly lit behemoth sail by shortly after midnight (2300GMT; 7 p.m. EDT). “It was fantastic to see it glide under the bridge. Boy, it was big,” said Kurt Hal, 56. Company officials are banking that its novelty will help guarantee its success. Five times larger than the Titanic, the $1.5 billion ship has seven neighborhoods, an ice rink, a small golf course and a 750-seat outdoor amphitheater. It has 2,700 cabins and can accommodate 6,300 passengers and 2,100 crew members. Accommodations include loft cabins, with floor-to-ceiling windows, and 1,600-square-foot (487-meter) luxury suites with balconies overlooking the sea or promenades. The liner also has four swimming pools, volleyball and basketball courts, and a youth zone with theme parks and nurseries for children. Oasis of the Sea, nearly 40 percent larger than the industry’s next-biggest ship, was conceived years before the economic downturn caused desperate cruise lines to slash prices to fill vacant berths. It was built by STX Finland for Royal Caribbean International and left the shipyard in Finland on Friday. Officials hadn’t expected any problems in passing the Great Belt bridge, but traffic was stopped for about 15 minutes as a precaution when the ship approached, Danish navy spokesman Joergen Brand said. Aboard the Oasis of the Seas, project manager Toivo Ilvonen of STX Finland confirmed that the ship had passed under the bridge without any incidents. “Nothing fell off,” he said. The enormous ship features various “neighborhoods” — parks, squares and arenas with special themes. One of them will be a tropical environment, including palm trees and vines among the total 12,000 plants on board. They will be planted after the ship arrives in Fort Lauderdale. In the stern, a 750-seat outdoor theater — modeled on an ancient Greek amphitheater — doubles as a swimming pool by day and an ocean front theater by night. The pool has a diving tower with spring boards and two 33-foot (10-meter) high-dive platforms. An indoor theater seats 1,300 guests. One of the “neighborhoods,” named Central Park, features a square with boutiques, restaurants and bars, including a bar that moves up and down three decks, allowing customers to get on and off at different levels. Once home, the $1.5 billion floating extravaganza will have more, if less visible, obstacles to duck: a sagging U.S. economy, questions about the consumer appetite for luxury cruises and criticism that such sailing behemoths are damaging to the environment and diminish the experience of traveling. It is due to make its U.S. debut on Nov. 20 at its home port, Port Everglades in Florida. .Related Searches:royal caribbean international .

RUSSIA/MALTA: M/V “Arctic Sea” allegedly hijacked by pirates amid claims that it was smuggling missiles to Iran has ended its three-month odyssey in Malta after being tested for nuclear contamination.

M/V “Arctic Sea” has been allowed to enter the Grand Harbour in Valletta after the Maltese Civil Protection Department declared it free of radiation and chemical hazards. The Maltese-registered ship had been the focus of speculation that it was carrying Russian S300 advanced air-defence missiles to Iran.

Despite repeated promises to take it into port, the Russian Navy has held M/V “Arctic Sea” in international waters since seizing it from suspected pirates on August 17 off Cape Verde near West Africa, 2,500 miles off course.

The ship had been under guard by two Russian warships since then. An attempt to dock at Las Palmas in Grand Canary failed last month after disputes over the presence of Russian military officers. Algeria also refused to allow M/V “Arctic Sea” to enter its waters.

The ship was allegedly boarded by an armed gang two days after it left Finland on July 22 to deliver timber worth USD 1.7 million to Algeria. The Russian Investigative Committee released M/V “Arctic Sea” from a detention order after prosecutors insisted that they had found no evidence of suspicious cargo.

Nobody has explained why a ship transporting a relatively inexpensive load should have been the target of the first documented act of piracy in Northern European waters for centuries.

Solchart, the Finnish owners of the ship, calculated that the incident had cost the company more than EUR 700,000 since the Russian Navy took control of the vessel.

A relief crew from Russia was in Malta to meet M/V “Arctic Sea”, which needs repairs. The captain and three crew members, who are all Russian, had been on board throughout the voyage. Their families complained in a letter to Vladimir Putin, the Russian Prime Minister, that they needed medical and psychological help.

It is unclear whether they will be free to return home to the Russian port of Archangel or be taken to Moscow for questioning.

Eleven other crewmen were held in Moscow for a week for interrogation by the Federal Security Service. They and the eight alleged pirates had been flown to Russia from Cape Verde.

The eight suspects, described as two Russian citizens, an Estonian, a Latvian and four stateless persons, are in custody in Moscow accused of piracy and kidnapping. They claimed to be ecologists who were rescued by the crew of M/V “Arctic Sea” when their inflatable dinghy got into trouble.

President Medvedev dispatched submarines and warships to find M/V “Arctic Sea” when it was declared missing. The Foreign Ministry later admitted that the ship’s movements had been tracked by Russian and Nato forces.

Suspicions about a cargo of smuggled missiles for Iran were strengthened when Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, made a secret visit to Moscow last month for talks with Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Putin. The Kremlin and Israel initially denied that any visit had taken place, but later admitted that Mr. Netanyahu had been in Russia.

Russian officials initially said that M/V “Arctic Sea” would be taken to the Russian port of Novorossiysk, but the ship remained at sea amid disagreements among the various governments involved and its owners.

“Ladny”, a Russian naval vessel that had been accompanying M/V “Arctic Sea”, returned to its port last night. “The Russian Navy’s mission has been completed,” a Russian Defence Ministry spokesman said.
